Local Father’s Day Activities & Gift Ideas

Father’s Day is right around the corner! It’s always the third Sunday in June, and this year it’s on June 15th. Spending quality time together will make the dads, grandfathers, and fatherly figures in your life feel extra special. We have made a list of some fun, free, and low-cost activities to help you celebrate. And, if you are feeling stumped on what to get Dad, check out the local gift ideas below.

Opt for Outdoor Activities

Kitsap County is full of peaceful parks where you can enjoy the great outdoors. Evergreen Rotary Park is a local favorite with large fields, sports courts, and a playground. Also, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy takeout from Evergreen Pizza. Another great option is Illahee State Park. It has a little bit of everything – from a dock and sandy beach to mossy forest trails. Its covered picnic area with electricity and adjacent grills is perfect for a BBQ.  Island Lake Park offers swimming, boating, walking paths, a play area, and picnic areas scattered throughout. It’s a beautiful setting to relax in the sun or get some steps in with those fur babies. Grab takeout from nearby Peter’s Kitchen, sweet treats from Bee Hill Bakery, or a unique drink from neighboring Candyland Cafe

Learn Something New

The U.S. Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport is a fascinating place to learn all about undersea operations, technology, and more. The museum is open 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Wednesday – Monday. Admission is always free. You’ll find a working periscope that has a view of the parking lot, and a replica control panel room from a submarine.

If time with creepy crawly creatures sounds exciting to you and Dad, visit the Bremerton Bug and Reptile Museum. Open daily, you can visit any time between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The museum features an 8-foot ant colony, live and preserved insects, and even a blue-tongued skink.

Test Your Skills

Challenge Dad to an axe-throwing duel at Dimension XR in Port Orchard. Or, team up in a virtual world at Kitsap Great Escape in Silverdale. There you can combine skills and problem solve in one of their four escape rooms. If arcades are more appealing, choose your own adventure at Quarters Arcade in Bremerton. This arcade has a variety of games and air hockey. All of these activities are under $40 per person.

They carry new and used vinyl, stereo equipment, and band merchandise. Bigfoot’s House of Vinyl in Bremerton specializes in hard-to-find and rare vinyl. Hobbies and Games

For the gamer dads, check out retro goodies at Dream Quest Games in Poulsbo or Big Red’s Retro Games in Silverdale. Both carry a wide selection of games spanning from Atari to recent Nintendo Switch and Xbox games. If you are shopping more for collectors and hobbyists, try The Game Wizard in Bremerton. You’ll find various board games, models, and card games, as well as adjacent Gamers Keep, a restaurant and lounge with gaming areas, and arcade games. Pretty Stick in Port Gamble is a great option for Star Wars collectors, and also carries unique books and other fun gifts. For the Foodie

If your dad is a grill master or an aspiring chef, we have two words: Spiva Cooking. Based in Bremerton, Spiva Cooking offers locally-made spice blends and seasoning rubs. We recommend purchasing the garlic herb rub, sweet heat BBQ, or smokey maple blueberry. Pair the spice blend with a chef-worthy knife, a cast iron skillet, or fun barware at Culinary Viking in Poulsbo. Want to treat dad to a new grill or smoker? Ace Hardware in Bremerton has a great selection, plus lots of other outdoor living essentials.

Malts and Hops

Kitsap County has no shortage of breweries, and the majority of them are family friendly. Pack up the fam and treat Dad to a flight of locally-brewed beer on his special day. Yoked Farmhouse Brewery in Port Orchard feels like an oasis. Crane’s Castle in East Bremerton offers indoor and outdoor seating as well as pinball and corn hole. Poulsbo’s Echoes Brewing has a mezzanine full of arcade games, giant Jenga, and Connect Four.
